VENETO FURNITURE MAKING SECTOR

Our furniture factory is located in the Furniture District, an area straddling the Italian regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto. The area has a long tradition in the processing of wood to make furniture.    The area is well-known for the high concentration of Veneto-based furniture making companies.

HISTORY OF THE FURNITURE DISTRICT

The Furniture District in Friuli Venezia Giulia includes approximately one thousand companies spread throughout the towns of:

  • Azzano Decimo
  • Brugnera
  • Budoia
  • Caneva
  • Chions
  • Fontanafredda
  • Pasiano di Pordenone
  • Polcenigo
  • Prata di Pordenone
  • Pravisdomini
  • Sacile

towns situated in the Province of Pordenone.

The furniture industry in Pordenone grew together with two other important production systems located in the area, namely the chair manufacturing industry in Manzano known as the “Chair Triangle”( www.promosedia.it) and more significantly the Treviso furniture industry.

The structures are joined together under the name ‘Livenza Furniture District from which the name Veneto Furniture Making Sector is derived.

In reality the real growth of the furniture industry in the area, even though it is based on a longstanding tradition of artisanal companies, is quite recent and occurred during the middle of the twentieth century.

The post-war period saw constant growth of the industrial furniture sector. The Italian economic boom of the 1960s resulted in a general increase in consumption and in particular increased demand for furniture for home, residential and office interior design. Kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms and office furniture become the jewels in the crown of production in the Furniture District and are the cornerstone of current growth. The result is one of the most important and best-structured components of the Italian industrial wood processing and furniture industry.

Over time an integrated system of companies in the wood and furniture sector has been consolidated.

Today one of the most important industrial areas in the furniture making sector in Italy is based in the Northeast of the country between the provinces of Pordenone and Treviso.

The towns with the highest level of employment are: Prata di Pordenone, Brugnera and Pasiano di Pordenone. The average size of the companies is greater than the regional and Italian standard and they employ approximately 35% of manufacturing workers in the province of Pordenone.

Education, training and specialisation play an important role in the Furniture District. The Brugnera Institute of Furniture and Interior Design is at the coalface of training the future specialists of the wood sector with significant emphasis also given to design and technological knowledge.
